Glenveagh Backs Ireland’s Biggest Charity Triathlon

Leading Irish homebuilder Glenveagh Properties is to sponsor this year’s King of Greystones Charity Triathlon.

The event, which comprises a 750m or 200m sea swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run, is Ireland’s biggest charity triathlon. The event will take place in the scenic Wicklow town of Greystones on Sunday July 28th.

All monies raised will go to The Gavin Glynn Foundation (TGGF) which helps all children with cancer in Ireland – and their families – to travel overseas for specialised treatment.

This is the fourth year TGGF has run the triathlon and to date the charity has helped 67 families.

The foundation was set up in memory of local boy Gavin Glynn who passed away from cancer in October 2014 aged four. Gavin’s father John, who runs the charity, says they are delighted to partner with Glenveagh for what promises to be a fantastic event.

“We would like to thank Glenveagh for coming on board this year as our main sponsor. This is a vital fundraiser for families who need to travel abroad for cancer treatment and that’s why the support of Glenveagh and the fundraising by participants in the King of Greystones is so important.”

“Taking part is a great way for people to set fitness goals while also raising funds for charity. Because the event is entirely volunteer run, all monies raised go to the charity. However, I would urge anyone interested in taking part to sign up as soon as possible. Four hundred people have registered already and we only have 100 places left.”

One group of twenty people who have signed up already will be attempting their first ever triathlon. However, they are in safe hands as they are being trained by Alex Gray from P Squared Performance, a strength and conditioning coach and triathlete who has won the event for the past five years.

Laughlin Rigby, Marketing Director at Glenveagh Properties, paid tribute to the vital supports being provided by TGGF.

“The monies raised from this event enable children with cancer to travel overseas with their families for lifesaving treatment. This is what community spirit and volunteerism is all about and as a company which is building and fostering new communities in Greystones, we are delighted to support it.”
